Chanderi Fabrics:

The Chanderi saris comes from the place called Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh. It is known as one of the best handloom cluster. They practice centuries old weaving techniques of producing fine fabrics silk and cotton with zari work.  Earlier these saris are worn by royal families.

The fabrics produced are three types like pure silk, cotton and cotton silk. These saris comes with special designs like zari coins, florals and peacocks embellished with zari. Now a days they are coming with other patterns of the designs as well.

Chanderi saris are completely hand woven saris with hand spun cotton. Earlier the thread count of these sari was very high upto 300, but later it is reduced due to import of less count material from other countries. These fabrics are known for their fine texture, light weight and transparency. The transparency is a unique feature which is not found in any other textile product all over the country. This transparency is due to specific quality of the yarn used. This special transparent yarn is used both in warp and weft of different varieties.  This is available in both cotton silk.

Cotton silk fabrics are recent production compared to cotton and silk which is well appreciated. Chanderi fabrics are used not only for saris, but for dress materials, duppattas, kurtis, blouses etc.

Plain Chanderi saris are extensively used for block prints like Bagru, dabu, Bagh etc. Now a days these saris with Indigo color are very much demand.
