Uppada silk sarees

Uppada sarees:

Uppada is a beach village near Kakinada in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

The silk saris from Uppada are  very elegant, smooth and different varieties of silk saris. The range of designs and patterns are quite high in these saris.

The weaving techniques are acquired from their ancestors. People in this village are uneducated and very poor, but highly skilled in this particular weaving technique. They do not use any machinery, everything is done by hand. These saris are very famous for the Jamdani weave which is originated from Bengal.

The first step of weaving is dyeing yarns. The yarns will be dipped in boiler which contains the colors. The yarns need to be stirred to make sure that the color is spread equally. Then the yarn need to be washed and dried. To keep the color of the yarns is durable, some amount of starch is required to apply.

Unlike Venkatagiri and Managalagiri weaves they use Frame looms for weaving. Frame looms are fixed in a frame and peddle will be placed at the ground. The weaver sits on stool and with help of hands and legs, he/she weaves saris. 

These saris comes in many designs. They are like pure silk sarees, silk and zari mix saris, cotton saris as well.

The pure silk saris are extensively used for Indian traditional functions like marriage
