Venkatagiri handloom sarees:
Venkatagiri sarees are pride of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh, Venkatagiri is located near to Tirupati which is famous pilgrimage of Lord Venkateswara. It is near to Srikalahasthi which is famous for Shiva temple and Pen Kalamakaris.
Queens, royal families and Zamindaris were only wearing these sarees in around 1700.
These sarees are woven in cotton, cotton silk and silk includes zari with attractive colours, designs, elegant borders and pallu.
Cotton sarees are better known in Handloom world.
Venkatagiri sarees are famous for Jamdani style weaving. They come with fine weaving, light in weight and comfortable to wear.
Type of weaving and looms:
The looms used in Venkatagiri are mostly pit looms. The looms are fixed at the ground level and the pedal is placed in a pit. The weaver will sit on the floor and use her/his hands and legs to weave.
Olden days only Cotton sarees were weaved, Now we can get silk and cotton silk sarees as well.
Cotton sarees are well known around the world for their softness and elegant look. They become perfect attire for daily office wear and gives lot of comfort for whole day.
Silk sarees best traditional wear for functions. Silk sarees comes with elegant designs, bright colours and heavy pallu. They are light in weight to wear and suitable in any season.
Venkatagiri silk cotton sarees comes with zari checks, zari borders or zari tissue all over saree. They suit well for small functions or get togethers.
Only elders used to prefer to wear Venkatagiri sarees. Now a days, all age groups are preferring to wear these sarees as demand for handloom sarees is increasing gradually.
